PDU AND SERVICE PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
Professional Development Units (PDU) are opportunities to speak with industry professionals to gain insight into interior design, behind the scenes on projects, and seek advice for stepping into the design profession.
Professional Development Units
Metal Works with Mark Stevenson
Discussed different types of metal and their different uses and appropriate applications while considering location, local codes, seismic events, and more.
Design Lecture Series: 20 Things Neuroscientists have Learned
A neuroscientist discussed with us how interior design directly affects people in their environments. She gave us 20 things designers should consider when it comes to designing spaces. This included textures, color, lighting, sound, and more. Which is especially important when catering design to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.
Hulthen Cabinetry with David Hulthen
Discussed how to design and pick out the right cabinetry for a client and their space considering the function and organization, and what we as Interior and Architectural Designers can do to for cabinet makers when providing detailed drawings, plans, and elevations.
Summer Thornton Design with Summer Thornton
We discussed Summer’s creative process for projects, looked behind the scenes on her current projects undergoing construction, and questioned her about what it’s like to be a designer and insight on job searching.
Service project involvement
Toys 4 Paws
Crafted handmade toys and blankets for dogs in a local animal shelter.
Meal Train
I, along with two of my classmates, had the privilege to put together and host our own service project event. We cooked two meals for two families going through hardship so that they did not have to worry about making a meal while going through a difficult time.
Warm Their Hearts
Created beds, blankets, and toys for the Kankakee County Animal Control.
