INTERIOR CONSTRUCTION AND BUILDING SYSTEMS

Interior Construction and Building Systems focused heavily on commercial buildings, wall construction types, building codes and regulations, fire codes, acoustics, partition types, and ADA accessibility. We discussed the precedence of certain codes and stressed the importance of why they were adopted by the International Code Council, as well as, help us as students develop empathy and compassion for those who were affected by the lack of building codes and for those with limited abilities.

Barne and Growman Office Building

For this project, we were given a shell of an existing office floor plan located in California. We were tasked with hand drawing a set of construction documents that included a Partition Plan, Reflected Ceiling Plan, Telephone and Electrical Plan, and a Furniture Plan. We drew these plans throughout the semester while learning about building codes, regulations, and standards so that we could apply our knowledge to our construction drawings.
